Particle Monitors

The LPM-II-plus particle monitor from STAUFF determines the contamination level of the measured fluid on eight size channels and offers precise and complete determination of particle sizes in accordance with international standards. The ATEX version of the LPM-II particle monitor from STAUFF is approved for use in explosive atmospheres (zone 2/category 3G). The device therefore meets the requirements e.g. for use in the oil and gas industry or in chemical and process engineering.

STAUFF LPM-II-plus particle monitor - Continuous oil cleanliness monitoring

The LPM-II-plus from STAUFF is an optical inline particle monitor that records the degree of contamination of hydraulic and lubricating fluids in a stationary position and in real time. With its 8-channel analysis in accordance with international standards, it provides reliable information on oil cleanliness - a decisive factor, as 70 to 80 % of all hydraulic failures are due to contaminated media. The precise measurement supports preventive maintenance, reduces downtimes and protects sensitive components.

For demanding industrial environments, an ATEX version (Zone 2 / Category 3G) is also available, which enables use in potentially explosive atmospheres, for example in mining, the oil and gas industry or chemical process engineering.

Product overview

The LPM-II-plus comprises three central components:

1. particle monitor LPM-II-plus

A compact measuring device for continuous inline particle analysis up to 420 bar, including:

  • 8-channel measurement
  • Purity indication via colour LCD display and LEDs
  • Internal memory for up to 4000 measurements
  • Numerous digital and analogue interfaces

2. ATEX version LPM-II (category 3G)

Approved for applications with explosion risk, such as

  • Mining and quarrying
  • Oil and gas extraction
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Refineries
  • Process industry

3. optional extensions

  • Water-in-oil sensor / temperature sensor
  • USB data interface
  • Software for data evaluation and limit value management
  • External remote display unit

Mode of operation

The particle monitor works fully automatically according to the light blockade principle. The flowing fluid passes through an optical measuring chamber in which particles are detected using high-power LEDs. The intensity of the light shading allows conclusions to be drawn about the size and number of particles.

The particle monitor then evaluates the measurement result according to globally recognised purity standards. Clear colour coding makes the condition of the oil immediately recognisable - without any detours via external evaluation tools.

Areas of application

The LPM-II-plus is suitable for all hydraulic systems in which the purity of the medium is a critical factor. Typical fields of application are

  • Production and manufacturing systems

  • Hydraulic power units and lubrication systems

  • Test benches and test systems

  • Energy generation plants (e.g. wind power)

  • Oil and gas industry (incl. ATEX applications)

  • Chemical and petrochemical process engineering

Continuous monitoring ensures that critical contamination is recognised at an early stage and failures are avoided.
